How To Relax When Camping In The Outback

Uncategorized November 14th, 2011

There’s no place like Australia. Nowhere else can you find the extraordinary landscape, lifestyles or wildlife that lives “Down Under”. The best way to experience Australia is by camping in the Outback. But there are a few cautions to consider first, you’re not in Kansas, mate !

First thing, make sure you have an experienced, qualified guide. There are lots of things that scratch, bite and sting that you’ve never seen before and your guide will keep you from guessing what they are.
Next is to pack and prepare your kit. Be ready for weather, sun, water and fun. A camera is an absolute necessity too. Let your guide keep you from under or over-doing it. They have been there and back so a word from the wise should be well-taken.

Australia has several creatures that deserve a wide berth. The Boom-slang is a seriously dangerous snake and being watchful is obligatory. No sneaking off in the bush or grass, they hunt there. Anti-venom might be too late with one of these creatures so keep alert. Camping near waterways means crocodiles. These are powerful and stealthy beasts and can hide underwater waiting for the right (or wrong) moment.

Flying insects and other pests deserve a quick ending so bring a bug spray. Mosquito netting is a sleeping aid as well. Bring along a multi-powered radio with solar, hand-crank and battery power, weather, news and a little music are good to have, especially the weather report. You thought this was good?
